CHALLENGE ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS:
DAY 1 Friday 11 September 09: Agter Paarl Loop – 65km
The route sets out in the direction of Klapmuts using a mix of farm and good gravel roads. The network of farm roads in the area will make for fast and flat riding, a perfect warm-up for the weekends riding. After a loop in the Klipheuwel region we head back through Boland Landbou Skool and back towards the campsite. Fast riders are expected back in 2 hrs. A late start of 1pm gives everybody a chance to get settled, registered and warmed up.
DAY 2 Saturday 12 September 09: Wellington Loop – 85km
Heading across the Berg River and the rolling hills of the Wellington basin, riders will soon find themselves in the foothills of the Groenberg Mountain where some serious climbing await. Single-track sections are plentiful but be careful in the corners as this area consists almost entirely of decomposed granite rock – slippery stuff indeed! Riders will experience some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Boland, even seasoned route designers were surprised at the natural offering – so close to Cape Town. The descents into the northern Wellington area will be ample reward for the mornings efforts after which riders make their way back to the start. Expect the fastest riders back in 3hrs 15min.
DAY 3 Sunday 13 September 09: Paardeberg Loop – 80km
The day's riding heads northwest towards the wine estates of the Paardeberg region. After an hour of fairly flat riding we head up the lower slopes of the mountain for some exciting sections offering breathtaking views over the entire valley and as you might guess, a fair bit of climbing will be involved. Fast descending follows back into the vineyards before some fast riding through the wheat fields brings you to the finish.
